TFBS Bioscience Celebrates 10th Anniversary: Partnering with Taiwan and Japan Companies to Expand Gene Therapy Business Opportunities

2026-10-14

Taipei, Taiwan — 14 October 2026

TFBS Bioscience, Inc. (Headquarters: New Taipei City, Taiwan; hereinafter "TFBS") marks its 10th anniversary today by announcing four major partnerships and milestones. Its strategic partners include ONODERA GT Pharma (Japan), TOKIWA Bio (Japan), Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corporation (Taiwan), and AMAMUS LIFE TECHNOLOGY (Singapore). Through these cross-border collaborations, TFBS Bioscience will further expand its footprint in the Japanese market, deepen its viral vector manufacturing and testing capabilities, and strengthen Taiwan’s biotechnology supply chain.

"TFBS was spun off from the Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB) in 2016," stated Tatung Yuan, Chairman of TFBS Bioscience. "Initially entering the market with specialized testing services for biologics and cell products, TFBS has progressively transitioned from a contract research organization (CRO) to a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) over the past decade. We have established integrated capabilities spanning biosafety testing, process development, viral vector manufacturing, and quality analysis. This journey not only showcases TFBS's growth, but also reflects the fruit of the Ministry of Economic Affairs' efforts to support the commercialization of research from official research institutes, thereby elevating the competitiveness of Taiwan's biotech industry."

Expanding into the Japanese Gene Therapy Market: Partnering with Japanese Enterprises for Viral Vector Manufacturing and Testing

Among the four new partnerships, the collaboration between TFBS and Japan's ONODERA GT Pharma (OGTP) takes center stage. Under the agreement, TFBS will provide CDMO services for adeno-associated virus (AAV) gene therapy products. Combining Japan’s drug R&D expertise with Taiwan’s viral vector manufacturing capabilities, the two companies will jointly advance the development of gene therapy products. OGTP focuses on gene therapy technologies for central nervous system disorders and monogenic diseases, with R&D spanning Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Another Taiwan-Japan collaboration focuses on regenerative medicine technologies. TFBS has signed an agreement with TOKIWA Bio to provide biosafety testing services to support the development of its innovative technologies and products. TOKIWA Bio possesses the Stealth RNA Vector (SRV) technology platform, which maintains long-term gene expression within the cytoplasm and holds potential for simultaneous multi-gene delivery. Applications cover gene therapy, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC), and cellular reprogramming.

Enhancing Vaccine Process Development and Securing Critical Raw Material Supply Chains

In domestic vaccine development, TFBS has expanded its cooperation agreement with Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corporation to provide CDMO services supporting the antigen process development for Medigen’s "second-generation multivalent enterovirus vaccine." Both parties will leverage their combined expertise in vaccine R&D, bioprocessing, and GMP manufacturing to accelerate the development of next-generation vaccines aimed at capturing international market share.

In addition to process development and manufacturing services, TFBS is simultaneously strengthening its upstream raw material supply chain to mitigate cross-border supply risks for critical materials. TFBS signed a collaboration agreement with the Taiwan branch of Singapore-based AMAMUS LIFE TECHNOLOGY, which will supply enzymes and key raw materials required for GMP viral vector processing and testing. AMAMUS LIFE TECHNOLOGY specializes in the R&D and manufacturing of enzymes and recombinant proteins for molecular diagnostics. This partnership will enhance the local availability of critical bioprocessing raw materials, further boosting process stability and supply chain resilience.

As global pharmaceutical supply chains continue to adjust, ensuring a stable supply of key raw materials and maintaining process quality have become essential for biotech companies to enhance competitiveness. Through a dual-pronged strategy targeting both service capabilities and raw material supply chains, TFBS continues to solidify its foundation in viral vector manufacturing.

From Testing to Manufacturing: Deepening Roots in the Asian Biomedical Supply Chain for the Next Decade

TFBS Bioscience held its 10th Anniversary Thanksgiving Reception today, hosting distinguished representatives from government, industry, academia, and research institutions. Guests included Chien-Cheng Tai, Senior Specialist of the Department of Industrial Technology (MOEA); Tsai-Kun Li, CEO of the DCB; Lee-Chiang Liu, Chairman of EirGenix; and Wuh-Liang Hwu, Distinguished Chair Professor at China Medical University Hospital. Together, they witnessed TFBS’s decade-long growth and milestone achievements. The growth trajectory of TFBS reflects the government model of fostering Taiwan's biotech development through institution-led R&D, technology transfer, and commercialization.

Chairman Tatung Yuan noted that TFBS is gradually transforming from a single-service technology provider into an integrated CDMO player, with "Viral Solutions" serving as its core growth engine for the next decade. He further stated that gene therapy products possess regional application and market characteristics. Moving forward, TFBS will strive to build regional advantages in the Asia-Pacific region, establishing Taiwan as its base while deepening its presence in Japan and exploring opportunities in other international markets to drive continuous corporate growth.
